Frequently asked questions

Why do lower L/100km numbers mean BETTER economy while lower MPG means worse?

They measure inverse things: L/100km counts fuel per fixed distance; MPG counts distance per fixed fuel. That inversion is exactly why the conversion is a division, not a multiplication.

Is this US or imperial MPG?

US. For imperial (UK) MPG divide 282.481 by the L/100km figure instead — the two gallons differ by about 20%.
