Cost per click is the simplest unit price in paid traffic. Fill any two of cost, clicks, and CPC and the third is solved — handy for budgeting forward or auditing a campaign backward.

Formula & methodology

CPC = cost ÷ clicks; rearranged: cost = CPC × clicks, clicks = cost ÷ CPC (rounded down to whole clicks).

Worked examples

  • 300 spend, 150 clicks → CPC 2.00
  • CPC 0.50 × 800 clicks → cost 400
  • 90 budget at CPC 1.50 → 60 clicks

Limits

A cheap click that never converts is expensive; judge CPC together with conversion rate (see the ads budget calculator). Arithmetic only.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lower CPC always better?

No — click quality matters. A 0.20 click that never converts costs more per sale than a 2.00 click that converts at 10%.
